Wilma Kotila Obituary

Wilma L. (Harmon) Kotila went to be with the Lord on January 30, 2021.   She was born “at home” on September 25, 1932 in Richmond Township, Ashtabula County, daughter of Laila T. (Luoma) Harmon and William Lee Harmon.  She was the oldest of 5 children.  She graduated from Ashtabula High School in 1950 and married Robert R. Kotila  in 1951.  They were married 62 years when Robert passed away.  During her senior year she was employed at W.W. Hill & Sons and then at the Ashtabula Corrugated Box Co. when she graduated in her later years, she was employed at Hills Dept. Store, and managed Glletly’s Restaurant for 2 years with her husband.

Important to Wilma was her participation in Church, the first 40 years as a Methodist beginning in Junior Choir and then in the lady’s ministry and working with children.  For a time, she and her family were active in the Assembly of God Church’s, especially in the children’s ministry.  As time went by the family attended the Pentecostal church.  It was then that Wilma was active in the leadership of “Aglow”, a Christian women’s group.  In her later days she attended Eagleville Church.

Also important in her life was “family” with either dinner or picnic with the family for every holiday!  Along with the picnics in the summer, she could be seen in her flower gardens.

She leaves behind 3 daughters, Gail (Dennis) Johnson, Jefferson, Susan (Dan) Marshfield, Ashtabula and Laurie (Bill) Laughlin of Rock Creek, grandchildren; Amy Cartner,  Jason (Tiffany) Cartner, Penny (Adam) Perrine, Nikki (Shawn) Hutchinson, Paul Laughlin, Robert Laughlin, a sister Evelyn Rost and a brother, Dr. Robert (Susan) Harmon, ten great grandchildren,  3 great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her parents, Laila & William Harmon, husband Robert Kotila, sister Aileen Hanneman, brother William Harmon, Jr., sister-in-law Diana Harmon and great granddaughter, Baby Mackenzie Laughlin.

Rev. Julie Hannema, her niece, will officiate at her service to be held at Saybrook Methodist Church on Friday February 5, at 11:00 A.m.  Visitation to be held from 10-11:00 prior to the service.  Burial will take place at Greenlawn Memory Gardens.
