Thomas McCain Obituary

Pastor Thomas McCain, 95, passed away on February 5, 2024, at the Ashtabula County Medical Center in Ashtabula, Ohio.

He was born on November 27, 1928, in Power, a small mining town named after a nearby power plant in West Virginia, the son of Menford McCain and Mary Ann (Dixon) Wright.

After relocating to Ashtabula in August 1953, Pastor Tom worked for a decade at the Tannery. However, on February 7, 1979, Pastor Tom married his beautiful bride, Mary Lou “Mitzi”. They were just two days shy of being able to celebrate their 45th wedding anniversary.

The following is a brief synopsis of the service Pastor Tom contributed to the county of Ashtabula:
1964-1987 Rockwell International Brake Plant

1989-1996 Reliance Electric Company.

However, the most rewarding contribution to his community, and society at large, was being ordained to the office of deacon in 1980, at Deliverance Evangelistic Temple. As a deacon, he served his pastors with a wealth of wisdom, realizing the only true reward for good service is the opportunity to serve more. Thus, being a man of vision and values, in January 1995, God called him to be the Pastor of Deliverance Evangelistic Temple. During his pastorate years, Pastor Tom also served twelve years as Head Advisor for Aglow.

Although retiring in July 2001, Pastor Tom actively performed the work of outreach ministry. He diligently worked to bring hope and restoration to prisoners and their families; he visited, gave communion, and preached in the nursing homes; he performed countless amounts of marriages; and officiated as well as eulogized numerous funeral services.

Pastor Tom enjoyed boxing, bowling, and supporting his Cleveland Browns. He was an exceptional singer and dancer who could take over the dance floor with his moves. He won several dance competitions. After a while, they would not even allow him to further enter dancing contests because he would consistently win.

He is survived by his loving wife, Mitzi; his beloved children: Sheila Jemison, Harry (Harriet) McCain, Phillip (Telisa) Wrisley, Thomas A. McCain, and Christopher (Michelle) McCain; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, William Wright; his grandson, Raymond Jemison, and his siblings, Louis McCain and Helen “Peaches” Cole.

Longevity of life is a blessing for a community that benefitted from the knowledge, love, and experiences Pastor Tom brought to Ashtabula County. Thank you, Pastor Tom, for your many years of invaluable service. Therefore, we hereby honor you as a treasure to this community for your exemplary well-lived life and its indelible impact. Well done, thou good and faithful servant, enter thou into the joy of thy LORD.

Pastor Tom, you will sincerely be missed by one and all.
