Stanford Rohrig Obituary

Stanford W. (“Stan” “Damper”) Rohrig peacefully departed this life April 9, 2021 at Austinburg Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Austinburg, OH following a lengthy illness.

Stan was born January 31, 1933 to the late Waldo and Helen Rohrig. He spent his childhood in Kanawha County, WV, attending Dupont High School before enlisting in the United States Army at age 17. Stan honorably served his country in the Korean War, in which he was twice injured in action and awarded the Purple Heart.

Upon his military discharge in 1953, Stan lived in Dunkirk, NY, eventually settling in Mercer County, PA where he worked as a welder. Stan married the late Mary Louise Travis in 1954, and together they raised three daughters and one son.

Stan enjoyed working on construction and masonry projects in his spare time. He loved classic cars and dabbled in auto mechanics. Stan’s personal interests also included gardening, reading, and country and gospel music. Stan had a friendly spirit and loved people. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, telling stories and sharing laughs.

Stan’s Christian faith was the guiding force by which he lived his life. He was previously a member of Wesleyan Methodist Church in Annandale, PA and Wesley Methodist Church in Jackson Center, PA.

In addition to his parents and his wife, Stan was preceded in death by daughter Sandra Nazario, brothers Richard Mace, Donald (“Dude”) Mace, Harry Mace, and Stanley Rohrig, and sister Helen Bonivitch.

He is survived by daughters Barbara (Bobby) Van Sickle and Theresa (Rick) Kaltenbaugh, son Gene Rohrig, several grandchildren and great grandchildren, brother Stewart Rohrig, sisters Dorothy Thaxton and Jo Ann Coniglio, and many extended family members.
