Shirley L. (McGee) Dyer 86, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2024 at David Simpson Hospice House in Cleveland, OH. She was born in Memphis, TN on December 14, 1937 to the late Louvenia (Roby) Carson. During her childhood the family moved from Memphis, TN, to Kansas City, KS, then to Cleveland, OH and finally settling in Ashtabula, OH in 1949. Shirley attended Division Street School and Ashtabula High School. Later on she met and married Valgene P. Dyer in 1954, during their union they were blessed with seven children.
Shirley retired from Ashtabula County Nursing Home where she worked as a nursing aide. But retirement didn't last long. She went back to work because she enjoyed keeping busy. Shirley also worked at the voting polls during elections. She loved to dance, sing, read, shop, do word search puzzles, listen to music which she enjoyed different genres, and spend time with her family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Shirley was also a member of Peoples Baptist Missionary Church. She was part of the New Spirit Choir, a faithful member of the Pastor's aide committee where she served as president for two years, and part of the church culinary committee.
Survivors include her children Valerie, Dee Dee, Craig, and Darlene Dyer all of Ashtabula. Siblings Darnetta Bennett of Charleston, SC, Denita Fields of Ashtabula, and Tari Rodriguez of Erie, PA. And a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her mother, children Jennifer Dyer, Calvin, Dyer, and Janice Dyer, her brother Micheal Carson, Sister Violetta McGee, grandchildren Calvin Dyer Jr., Devere Dyer, and DeAuntrè Dyer.
Calling hours will be held Saturday, March 9, 2024 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Peoples Baptist Church 3837 West Ave, Ashtabula, Ohio with Funeral service to follow at 11:00am. Shirley will be laid to rest at Edgewood Cemetery directly after the funeral service.
