On Saturday evening, January 30, 2021, Rosemary Brenkus passed away peacefully. She was 90 years of age.
Rosemary was born on October 17, 1930 in Ashtabula, Ohio to the late Charles and Mary (Richens) Glaus. She graduated from Edgewood High School and received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Lake Erie College.
Rosemary married Martin Brenkus on April 26, 1952 in the Eastside Presbyterian Church in Ashtabula, Ohio.
She was an educator all of her life; having taught at Charleston Elementary School in Ravenna, Lincoln Elementary School in Ashtabula Township and finally retired from the Geneva Area School system in 1988. She was a substitute teacher following retirement for many years in the Ashtabula and Lake County School Systems. She was also a reporter for NBC TV during presidential elections.
Rosemary was an active volunteer for the Literacy Program in Ashtabula County, Hospice of the Western Reserve, the Ashtabula County Medical Center and the Ashtabula County Animal Protective League.
Rosemary loved music, dancing, reading, painting with water colors, traveling and sewing. She was an avid bicyclist as well.
Survivors include her children: her son, Mark (Kim) Brenkus of Buford, Georgia; her daughters: Barbara (Donald) Mead of Marion, Ohio, Corinne (Wilson) Boomhower of Geneva, Ohio and Connie (Scott) Kurki of Woodbridge, VA.; her grandchildren: Brian Mead, Mark Boomhower, Courtney Gage and Bethany Hartung; 6 great-grandchildren; her sister Lilafay (Ralph) Strong of Catonsville, Maryland; as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Martin Brenkus in 1999, granddaughter Jessica Kurki and her brother Cordell Glaus.
Due to the restrictions of the pandemic, private family funeral services will be held at Fleming-Billman Funeral Home, 323 S. Broadway, Geneva. Final interment will follow in Geneva Union – Evergreen Cemetery, 292 Eastwood Street, Geneva.
