Richard David Butler, 86, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2025, at his home following a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease.
He was born in Chardon, Ohio, the son of Kenneth and Sarah (Klatka) Butler. Richard graduated from West Geauga High School, Class of 1957.
At a young age, Richard was working on his grandmother’s family farm, and he was driving a tractor before he was a teenager. He met Dorene Bartlett at that farm, and they were married July 18,1959. Both with a love of farming, they purchased their own farm in Jefferson in the mid-1960s. This is the farm where he would live out his life with Dorene by his side. Together they would accomplish anything they put their mind to. They were blessed with 66 years of marriage, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The farm life fulfilled almost all his interests, hobbies and family activities. His work ethic was second to none and was passed down to his children and grandchildren. Working hard, providing for and teaching his family gave him a great deal of pride. But it was his family that he was most proud of.
He survived by his wife Dorene; his daughter Patricia J. (Duane) Parnaby and his son Paul A. (Shawn Tucker) Butler; his granddaughter Ashley (Jacob) Konczal, grandson Brian Parnaby, great-grandsons Raymond and Donald Konczal; his brothers: Ronald (Diana), Roger (Kathy Barnard), Robert (Dolores) and Rodney Butler; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister-in-law, Donna, his sister, Sally Nice and her husband Charles.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 26 at the Jefferson, United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, 125 East Jefferson St., Jefferson, OH. The family will receive guests from 11:00 to 12:30 and a celebration of Richard’s life will begin at 12:30; a luncheon will immediately follow.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Ashtabula County 4-H foundation. Online obituary and a place to leave condolences can be found at www.fleming-billman.com
