Richard P. Blood, 86 of Plymouth Township died Sunday (August 8th) at the Country Club Retirement Campus. He was born May 12, 1935 in Conneaut, Ohio the son of Edgar and Mary Elizabeth (Powell) Blood, and has been a lifetime area resident. He was a graduate of Rowe High School and received his Bachelor’s degree in English Literature from Ohio University in 1960. Richard had been employed as an editor with the Ashtabula Star Beacon and the Jefferson Gazette. He finished his career as a photographer and reporter for the Meadville Edition of the Erie Times.
He enjoyed making nature and landscape video documentaries like his feature of the Ashtabula County covered bridges. He also took pleasure in helping families celebrate loved ones with video documentaries. He was an avid baseball fan, always rooting for the Indians. Dick was especially known for taking care of his wife Marie.
Surviving him is his wife Marie (Mongenel) Blood whom he married June 12, 1965; three sons, Michael R. (Kristi) Blood of Plymouth Township, Steven P. (Norma) Blood of Georgetown, Texas, and Bryan J. Blood (fiance Heidi Nelling)
of Ashtabula, Ohio; six grandchildren, Spence, Averi, Jacob, Kassidy, Elliana, and Nathan; and his siblings, Wilma, Norma, Nancy, and William. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Lois and Betty, and two brothers, Edgar, Jr., and David.
A memorial service will be Thursday (August 12th) at 11:00 am at the Messiah Lutheran Church, 615 W. Prospect Rd. Ashtabula with Pastor Michael Meranda officiating. A private burial will take place at Greenlawn Memory Gardens in North Kingsville.
