Raymond Calaway 93, of Kingsville died Sunday (Aug. 21st) in his home. He was born February 17, 1929 in Ashtabula, the son of Raymond F. and Elizabeth (Wiker) Calaway, and has been a lifetime area resident.
Raymond was a veteran of World War 2, serving in the Army Air Corp. He is a member of the VFW Post #943 and American Legion Post #103.
In 1949, he married the love of his life, Mary Carney. He was a skilled butcher, and she was a wonderful cook. For 62 years, they were a devoted couple, creating a loving home for their 5 children, and welcoming all who visited. Raymond worked for Deveraux Grocery, Value King, and Golden Dawn. He loved animals, and his interests included hunting, gardening, and fishing.
Surviving him are his five children, Mark (Sandee) Calaway of Austinburg, Patricia (Doug) Taylor of Ashtabula, Michael (Laurie) Calaway of Jefferson, Perry (Jodi) Calaway of Kingsville and Robert (Christina) Calaway of Ashtabula; 12 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren; two brothers, Ralph Calaway of Ashtabula and Russell Calaway of Ashtabula and a sister, Carol Moore of Cortland, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary in 2011, and by 8 brothers and sisters.
Funeral service will be Friday (Aug. 26th) at 11:00 am at Greenlawn Memory Gardens mausoleum in North Kingsville with Alisa Nierzejewski, certified celebrant officiating.
Visitation will be Friday from 10:00 am until the time of service at the cemetery.
