Rafael Cancel

Rafael Cancel, 68 of Ashtabula joined heaven on Friday (Oct. 9th) at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland. He was born September 6, 1952 in Utuado, Puerto Rico the son of Jose Dolores and Maria (Santiago) Cancel.

Mr. Cancel had worked for various Nursey in the area and had been a member then Pastor (25 years) at Iglesia Primitiva Pentecostal Church in Ashtabula.

He enjoyed fishing, gardening and yard work when he wasn’t at church, and spending time with his family.

Surviving him is his wife  Sandra (DeJesus) Cancel whom he married November 10, 1975; five children, Rafael (Bobbie Whetro) Cancel, Jr of Ashtabula, Carlos (Nina Sanchez) Cancel of Ashtabula, Jessica Cancel of Ashtabula, Sam (Nayra) Cancel of Ashtabula and Rebeca (Kimeil) Marsh of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; fourteen grandchildren, Nikolas Cancel, Austin Cancel, Lilian Cancel, Alexia Cancel, Felix Cancel, Cataleya Cancel, Luciana Cancel, Zoe Collazo, Angelo Collazo, Anthony Collazo, Joselyn’ Collazo, Jasmine Collazo, Karmelo Marsh and Reign Marsh; four sisters and a brother. He was preceded in death by his parents and by two sisters and two brothers.

Funeral service will be Saturday (Oct. 17th) at 11:30 am at the Iglesia Primitiva Pentecostal Church, 825 Joseph Ave. Ashtabula with Pastor Ruben Claudio officiating. Burial will be in Ridgeview Cemetery.

Calling hours will be Friday (Oct. 16th) from 4 to 7 pm at the Ashtabula Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors and Crematory, 526 W. Prospect Rd. Ashtabula and on Saturday from 10:00 am until the time of service at 11:30 at the church.

The family asks that all attending wear face masks.
