Phyllis Jane Clay
JEFFERSON - Phyllis Jane Clay, 78, passed away September 14, 2021, at the Jefferson Healthcare Center.
She was born in Cleveland, Ohio on March 17, 1943, the daughter of John and Gertha (Miller) Clay, Sr.
Phyllis was a kindhearted, loving, and caring person; and it was because of those characteristics that she decided on a career in nursing.
Following graduation from Geneva High School in 1961 she went on to receive her degree in nursing from the Akron City Hospital School of Nursing in 1964. She worked for many hospitals mainly in labor and delivery in Ohio and California; Phyliss loved children, especially the little ones; when she returned to Ohio for good, she worked as the Director of Nursing at Madison Health Care and Rae-Ann Nursing and Rehabilitation. She valued the friendships she has built over the years with her fellow nurses. In her free time, she enjoyed reading, knitting, and cooking. She loved her family with all her heart; her son, grandchildren and her sisters and brothers brought her joy and happiness. She will be missed dearly by her family and friends.
She is survived by her loving family; her son Antony; her grandchildren: Raymond Clay, Phylishia (Les) Lesh, Vanessa Mann and Antony Clay, Jr.; her great-granddaughter Scarlette Mann; her sisters: Priscilla France, Paulette Sheeley, Peggy Clay, Polly Anne Clay, and Pamela Pope; and her brother, John William Carter Clay, Jr.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Patricia Ann Smith and brother Michael Lee Clay.
Graveside funeral services will be held on Saturday October 2, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at Trumbull Cemetery. The repast will follow at the Hampton Inn banquet hall located right off the exit or US Route 90 and Route 45 in Austinburg.
