Paul Arthur Shimek

Paul Arthur Shimek, 82 passed away peacefully on November 15, 2022, at his home in Austinburg Township, Ohio.

He was born on January 19, 1940, in Painesville, Ohio, the son of John T. and Marietta (Houser) Shimek.

Paul proudly served in the United States Merchant Marines where he served from 1958 to 1962.

He married Janet M. Calvin on October 14, 1988, and together they shared thirty-four wonderful years of marriage and a lifetime of priceless memories.

Paul was employed as a Group Leader at Hubbell Industrial Control; he retired after thirty-five years of dedicated service.

He had been a member of the Ashtabula County Antique Engine Club and TWIN STATE Auto Racing Club.

Paul had many hobbies and interests, he enjoyed woodworking, NASCAR, model trains, cooking, antique trains and tractors. He was known to his family and friends as the man who could do absolutely anything, he was a perfectionist at everything he did; as well as being one of the hardest working men they knew.  He would do anything for anyone and was always willing to help anyone in need.

He is survived by his loving wife, Janet Shimek, his children: Belinda (Jack) Mercer, Amy Shimek, Paula (Keith) Kister; his step-children, Melissa (Jamie) Dangrow and Michael Wiley; his grandchildren: Jeffrey (Melinda) Carter, Adrienne Carter, Laura Beardsley, Joseph Beardsley, Danny Waltz, Tim (Nicole) Rees, Allison Rees, Jared Emmett and Jenna Wygant; twelve great-grandchildren and his nineteen-year-old cat, Sheba, a.k.a “his little sweety pie”.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his grandson Kyle Thompson; his sisters: Martha Cole and Marie Shimek and his brothers: John, Jim, Rich and Albert Shimek.

A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, November 19, 2022, at 12:00p.m. at Mechanicsville Cemetery, 3930 Lampson Road in Geneva, Ohio.
