Patricia Lehtonen Hazeltine went to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 19, after a sudden illness. Born January 29, 1953, she was the daughter of Olive “Jo” Lehtonen and the late Robert W. Lehtonen. She graduated from Harbor High School and Kent State University. She had worked as a social worker and school teacher, but her true vocation was her family and working in her community, most recently serving as Senior Warden at St. Peter Episcopal Church.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her sister- and brother-in-law Catie (Hazeltine) and David Kerruish, and many aunts and uncles.
She is survived by her mother, Jo; devoted husband of 41 years, Robert Hazeltine; her daughters Sara Nesbitt of Erie and Martha Hazeltine of Ashtabula; and two bonus sons, Stephen Nesbitt of Erie (her son-in-law) and Ryan Lehtonen of Saybrook (her nephew). Other survivors include her beloved sister Candy (Craig) Myllymaki of Cape Coral, Florida and family; beloved sister-in-law Amy (Al) Roebuck of Fort Erie, Ontario, Canada and family; brother Michael Lehtonen; aunts Audrey Savoie of Michigan and Marge Saterback of California; and numerous cousins.
There will be a service of Christian Burial at 11:00 am on Tuesday, December 28 at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 4901 Main Avenue, Ashtabula. Friends are invited to show their expectation of the Resurrection by wearing bright colors. The service will also be streamed on the church’s Facebook page. The family will receive guests starting at 10:00 and invite all to the luncheon in the parish hall following the service. Masks worn correctly will be required, and social distancing strongly encouraged. A celebration of life will be scheduled for over the summer with specific details to be announced at a later date.
