Norbert "Dan" Subwick Obituary

Norbert Daniel Subwick
June 26,1937- February 20, 2023
Norbert Daniel Subwick, Dan to all who knew him, passed away from complications of
Dementia. He was 85 years old. At the time of his death, he was residing at the Austinburg
Rehabilitation and Nursing facility with his wife of 57 years by his side.
Dan was born in Cleveland, Ohio on June 26, 1937 to proud parents Norbert A. and
Dorothy B. Subwick (nee Faist). Dan was a hard worker, getting his first job at the age of 7
delivering newspapers with the aid of his trusty wagon. Throughout the years, he held many
jobs in the area of construction, working his way through college at Kent State University to earn
his degree in education. It was here that he met his wife, Audrey. They were married in
Stamford, Connecticut on September 11, 1965 and had two daughters, of whom he was very
proud. Dan was employed by the Ashtabula Area City Schools as a science teacher for 26
years before retiring. He was also a journeyman carpenter, using his skills to remodel both of
the homes that he and Audrey owned throughout their marriage.
Dan enjoyed the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman and golfer, although he would
admit that he wasn’t very good at the game. He was also a member of the Cleveland Aikido
Club. Dan was a great storyteller, with a wonderful sense of humor, and a big heart who enjoyed
a few cold ones shared with family and friends. Dan loved his animals and always deeply
mourned the loss of a beloved pet. One of his greatest wishes was to be reunited with all of the
animals that he had loved so much when he himself passed on. Dan had a message for all his
former fishing buddies who passed on before him: Jeff Piscura, Barney Dubsky, Dave DeLeone,
and Roger Zenesek- “I’m coming. Get the boat ready.”
Dan is survived by his wife Audrey; daughters Christine (Brian) Foor of Geneva, and
Tania (John) Buchmelter of Fitchburg, Wisconsin; two granddaughters Brenna Paananen and
Sonja Dort; and a sister Bonnie (Don) Gundling who resides in Florida. He was preceded in
death by his parents and his younger brother, Jeffrey.
A memorial mass and celebration of his life will be held on June 3rd at 11:00 A.M. at Mother of Sorrows. A luncheon will follow at Lakeway's Restaurant, 729 Lake Ave., Ashtabula.
Remembrances in his name may be made to the Ashtabula County Animal Protective
