Mildred Zasadzinski went home to the Lord on Saturday, October 29th, 2022.
She was born on January 19, 1931, the daughter of Charles and Pearl (Ludwig) Shahan. The family moved to Ohio when she was eight years old. She is a graduate of Madison High School and earned a BS in Education from Kent State University. She taught first grade in the Madison School System. She married Edward Zasadzinski of Pompton Lakes, NJ. Six months later they received orders to Kenitra, Morocco. They lived and worked here for three years. She taught first grade and Ed was in charge of the power plant producing electricity for the entire base. Their first son, Mark was born there. Their next assignment was to Charleston, SC. Son, Bruce was born on the Naval base in Charleston. Daughter, Beth was born at Geneva Memorial Hospital.
Mildred was very active in the community. She was a member of Homer Nash PTO, past President of the United Methodist Women of Park United Methodist Church, Shawnee Square Dance Club, NE Ohio Rose Society, Madison Historical Society, Jefferson Depot, Jefferson United Methodist Women, Fort Baptist Church Women’s Circle and the Jefferson Knitters and Crochet Club at the Jefferson Senior Center. Mildred was a life member of the Ohio Retired Teachers Association.
Her greatest joy was visiting her grandchildren. She has made many quilts and crochet items for family, nursing homes and the Ashtabula Hospital Maternity Ward.
She is survived by her husband, Edward of more than sixty-three years; her children: Mark (Kenda), Bruce (Felecia) and Beth (Mike); her granddaughter’s: Tara (Tyler), Amanda, Kaitlyn and Laura; her grandson’s: Zach, Devin, Scott, Craig Poore (Mandy) and Holly Poore; her great grandchildren: Lilliana Springer, Makayla Poore, Andrew Poore and Izzy Poore; her siblings: Mary, Dorothy and Allan; and many, many nephews, nieces and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers: Jay, Alva Art, David and Maurice and her sisters: Alice, Dawn and Margaret.
Services will be held at the Fleming and Billman Funeral Home, 49 West Jefferson Street, Jefferson, Ohio on Tuesday, November 1, 2022, calling hours are from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with a funeral service at 1:00 p.m., burial will immediately follow in Fairview Cemetery in Madison, Ohio.
