Michael "Mike" Fanara Obituary

Michael “Mike” Anthony Fanara of Rock Creek, Ohio, born March 25, 1966, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Friday, May 19, 2023 at the age of 57.

He is survived by his wife, Lillian “Janie” Fanara of 19 years; his son, Robert “Bob” Lawson Sommers; his mother, Elizabeth Fanara; his sister Renee Brewer; his son Michael; his two Yorkie companions Bryson and Jossie and his beloved cat, Oliver.

He was preceded in death by his father, Anthony Fanara.

Mike graduated from Willoughby South High School and later joined Labor Union Local 310.  He recently retired after 35 years of strong dedication.  He has left a profound legacy on those who loved him dearly.  Mike had a thoughtful personality.  He was a strong willed and a very principled man of integrity. Other qualities like loyalty, compassion, and discipline ran deep.  He was the kind of guy that everyone wants in their corner.  His attributes were blissfully balanced and he could adapt them to any situation.  Mike was an early riser; waking up at 4AM daily to sit, sip his coffee, and strategically plan the day.  He lived a simple life, providing for those he loved. He mastered many skills which came very easy for him.  His home stands a monument to his creativity, from his handmade columns and fireplace with black walnut mantle to beautiful charcuterie boards.  He was driven to put his heart and soul into everything he did.  After retirement, Mike loved to travel in his RV.  He and his wife visited numerous state parks in multiple states.  Mike loved the beauty nature had to offer from the Florida Keys, Maine, Upper Peninsula of Michigan, Nashville and Vegas.  He took every opportunity to stop and smell the flowers, appreciate a quality meal, and live in the moment.  An avid gardener, Mike was excited in the spring to plant his garden to later enjoy the fall harvest.  He canned peppers, beets and homemade roma tomato sauce.  His Sicilian linage at its best.  Mike’s wife describes him as a perfect man.  She carries a deep sense of love and admiration for him. Mike once told her that he would never let her down. She is grateful to reflect and say, “thank you for never letting me down”.
