Mary Herpy, age 92, (1932-2024)—Born May 7, 1932 to Rudolph and Elsie (Schwentker) Wichert in Geneva, Ohio passed peacefully in Austinburg with granddaughter by her side on Monday October 28, 2024.
Mary was a lifelong resident of Ashtabula County. She graduated from Geneva High School in 1949. Her passions included cooking, gardening, canning, hosting gatherings at the pavilion, and most of all her grandchildren. However, she was best known as, Grannie, by all who knew her. She retired from Reliance Electric at the age of 55, where she met her soulmate—Charles. She married Charles Herpy, Sr of Conneaut, Ohio on July 31, 1984 in Jefferson, Maine. They enjoyed 28 years of blissful marriage before his passing in 2013. Together they enjoyed their trips to Maine, yard work at their residence in Eagleville, watching grandchildren’s sporting events and spending quality time with family and friends. Their love for one another was a story of which fairytales should be written. Both were members of Eagleville Bible Church.
She is survived by two step children: Connie (Dennis) Carlisle of Ashtabula and Chuck (Linney) Herpy of Pierpont; four grandchildren: Tina (Britt) Schwotzer of Eagleville, Tracey (Bill) Beckwith of Jefferson, Tony (Traci) Lambert of Eagleville, and CW Dunham of Madison; nine great grandchildren: Keston (Ana), Bailey, Alexa, Alesia, Kirsten (Brandon), Billy (Bria), Bodey, Kirkland and Luke; five great, great grandchildren: Lexton, Adelyn, Boaz, Lainey, and Amerson.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents, husband, siblings Rolland and James Wichert, Children Darlene Jo (Chuck Dunham, surviving) and Harry William in infancy, and first husband, Harry Burlingame.
Services will be held at Fleming-Billman Funeral Home in Jefferson, Monday November 4, 2024. Calling Hours will be 11:00 am until 1:00 pm. The funeral will be held at 1:00 pm. Graveside burial will be immediately following at Eagleville Cemetery. Services will be officiated by Pastor Bill McMinn.
