Martha Jean (Chipps) Ross

Martha Jean Ross, 87, passed away in the peace and comfort of her own home following a brief illness on June 10, 2023.

She was born in Cowen, West Virginia, the daughter of John and Irene (Wilson) Chipps.

Martha graduated from Jefferson High School in 1954.  She was a devoted Christian and long-time member of the Old Time Baptist Church.

In 1996, she married her best friend, Jack W. Ross, who became the love of her life.

She was a full time, professional caretaker after she raised her six children. 

She was a talented musician and vocalist, and she loved playing the piano.  She loved cooking, baking and canning.  Martha loved her flower gardens and watching the hummingbirds in her bird feeders.  She lived her life for her family.

She is survived by her loving children: Dennis (Donna) Swan, Tammy (Jeff) Meyers, Skeeter (Mike DiPolito) Marshall, Tonja Swan and Vanya Joy (Swan); her grandchildren: Christopher Swan, Ryan Swan, Jay Meyers, Marissa, Calah, Shaleigh, Tammarisk Thompson, Meggan Swan, Madeline Maire, Marla Maire, Mary Maire, Lauren Swan and Jillian Swan; her sixteen great- grandchildren and her sister, Susan (Patrick) Watson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jack W. Ross, her son, Daniel Swan, her brother, John Chipps, her sister, Peggy Dye and her great-grandson, Johnathan Swan.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, from 5:00p-7:00p at Fleming and Billman Funeral Home (the former Jack W. Ross Funeral Home), 526 W. Prospect Road in Ashtabula. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 15, 2023 at 12:00p at the funeral home. Immediately following the service, Martha will be laid to rest at Conneaut Glenwood Cemetery.
