Marion L. Shipman, 95, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2025, at Country Club Retirement Campus.
She was born on September 13, 1929, the daughter of Norman and Ruth (Ringer) White, and was a lifelong resident of Ashtabula.
Marion graduated from Ashtabula High School and married the love of her life, Charles Shipman, on September 29, 1951. They shared 56 wonderful years of marriage before his passing in 2007. She worked at Truesdell Dairy and as a bookkeeper at Carlisle’s before becoming a full-time homemaker. Marion was also a Girl Scout leader and an active member of Trinity Presbyterian Church for many years. She was a wonderful cook and an avid pie maker—her blueberry pies were especially beloved. Marion enjoyed sewing and crocheting afghans for family members, reading, and watching NASCAR races. She also found joy in observing the wildlife from her kitchen window. Most of all, she cherished spending time with her family, whom she loved unconditionally.
Marion is survived by her daughters, Ann (Howard) Luce and Darlene (Kenneth) Keeler; her son, Robert (Melinda) Shipman; stepdaughter, Susan Sears; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Shipman; her stepson, Gilbert Shipman; and her sister, Evelyn Senart.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 23, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with a funeral service to follow at 12:00 p.m. at Fleming & Billman Funeral Home, 526 W Prospect Rd, Ashtabula, Ohio. Marion will be laid to rest at Saybrook Township Cemetery following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Marion’s name may be made to Trinity Presbyterian Church or Hospice of the Western Reserve. The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to Hospice of the Western Reserve and the nurses and caregivers at Country Club Retirement Campus for the compassionate care they provided to Marion.
