Manette Jane (Knerr) Nelson passed away peacefully on Monday, May 27, 2024 at the age of 88.
She was the heart of her family, embodying love, kindness, and unwavering support.
Manette was born on June 28, 1935 in Painesville, Ohio; the daughter of Monroe and Helen (Rex) Knerr.
Manette married her husband, John Gilbert Nelson in 1953 and the two had 5 children, sharing 53 years of marriage prior to John's death in 2006. She lived a life of service and enjoyed caring for others from her career as cafeteria supervisor at Edgewood High School to volunteer work at Messiah Lutheran Church and Ashtabula County Medical Center. She lit up when spending time with friends and family, whether enjoying a glass of wine with friends at Debonne Vineyards, hosting large family gatherings at her home, or spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Though she may no longer be with us physically, her spirit lives on in the countless lives she touched.
Manette is survived by children: Wendy (Mike) Kortyka of North Kingsville, OH, Paul (Belinda) Nelson of Warren, OH, James (Virginia) Nelson of Alexandria, VA, Janna Nelson of Port St. Lucie, FL, and Monroe (Allison Burke) Nelson of Delaware, OH,; 9 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren and her dearest friend, Ernestine Rossette.
She was preceded in death by her husband John Nelson; parents Monroe and Helen (Rex) Knerr; brothers Monroe and Rex Knerr; grandson William Nelson; granddaughter Nicole Schupska.
Manette's legacy of love and service will forever inspire us.
