Lorraine “Karen” Taylor, age 82, of Vista Springs Quail Highlands Assisted Living, Concord Twp. Ohio and formerly of Ashtabula, Ohio.
Born June 3, 1941, in Denmark, Ohio. She was the daughter of the late Homer and Lois (VanWinkle) Lynagh. She was married to the late Fred G. Taylor on August 17, 1958 and together had 5 children.
Karen was a very accomplished busy independent trend setter. Together with her husband, she owned and operated a multitude of businesses: a fruit and vegetable market; a dairy brazier store “The Tasty Place”; two apartment buildings in Bronx, NY; and several apartments in Jefferson and Ashtabula, Ohio. Separately, she worked at Horner Box Factory and sold real estate for Miller Realty. She wasn’t afraid of hard work. Alongside her husband, they built several homes and converted the Mt. Carmel Church and rectory into multiple apartments of which she managed well after her husband passed. Karen was a very creative person: an avid painter, crafter, reader, seamstress, and loved to play games on the computer. Vacationing often consisted of enjoying the state parks throughout the country camping with family in addition to a few trips to Ireland to follow her heritage.
Karen was an active member of the American Business Women’s Association “Anchors Aweigh Charter Chapter” of Ashtabula County where this small group of women raised and awarded thousands of dollars in scholarships to area students. Multiple years she was recognized as the “Woman of the Year” for her dedication and key organizational skills to keep this group going. Her drive for wanting to always look out for anyone in need of help continued long into her move to assisted living where she made it her mission to look out for others above and beyond her own needs as she endured a debilitating disease. She enjoyed the many friends she made there.
Most of all she was the glue to the whole family as she took care of everyone and was the first to organize family get togethers and host dinners with friends. Survivors include: her five children, Tammi (Ron) Scott of York, PA; Tracy (Larry) Brockway of Pittsburgh, PA; Tara (Brad) Reinke of Chardon; Fred (Molly) Taylor of Moreland Hills; and Patrick (Maryjean) Taylor of Ashtabula; fifteen grandchildren, Regis (Tracy), Cole (Destiny), Beth (Teodoro), Austin (Caitlin), Alexis, Cameron, Crystal (Todd), Kelsey (Dustin), Patrick, Claire, Grace, Joshua, Katelyn, Matthew, and Kayla; thirty-one great grand-children. Her brother, Larry (Mary) Lynagh of Jefferson and also many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Fred; parents; and brothers: Laddie, Leslie, and Leo.
Calling hours will be held from 10:30a-12:00p on Monday, July 31, 2023 with funeral service to follow at Fleming & Billman Funeral Home 49 West Jefferson Street, Jefferson, Ohio 44047. Karen will be laid to rest at Dorset Cemetery.
