Leona M. McClenaghan, 91, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2022, at her home in Austinburg, Ohio.
Leona was born on July 14, 1931, in South Amherst, Ohio, the daughter of Robert R. and Mamie (Lute) Wilson..
She graduated from the Ohio Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Orphans’ Home in Xenia, Ohio then went on to a trade school for data processing.
Leona worked at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, the Lorain Journal, and True Temper as an administrative assistant. She also worked at Molded Fiberglass. Her most rewarding job was being a domestic engineer by taking care of her family and the farm.
On May 15, 1954, Leona married the love of her life, Roger Glenn McClenaghan. They shared forty-nine wonderful years of marriage together before his passing in 2003.
Leona had many interests and hobbies: she loved music, she was very talented and could play the guitar, flute, piano and trumpet. She worked hard on the family farm by hauling hay, raising and milking their own cows, and chopping their own firewood. She enjoyed gardening, canning, beekeeping and cooking. She was known to make the best fudge, donuts, pies, pecan rolls, caramels, and homemade bread. Leona was the glue that held the family together. She valued spending quality time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and never missed a sporting or school event of theirs. She was extremely proud of her family, they were her true source of happiness and joy.
She is survived by her loving children: Randa “Randy” (Richard) Pucci, Jody McClenaghan (Rich Hacker), Lee Ellen McClenaghan and William “Bill” (Mardi) McClenaghan; her former son-in-law, Glenn Sloan Jr.; her grandchildren: Katie (Ron) Carter, Michael (Krista) Hobson, Michael Pucci, Robert Pucci, Mika McClenaghan, Justin Sloan (Stephanie Kopinski), Kayla Sloan (Matt Leonard), Joseph Sloan (Heather Dunkley), Cherokee Wilkey and Richard Wilkey; her great-grandchildren: Riley, Abby, Nicole (Dan), Lukas (Erin), Bethany (Trevor), Keenan, Riley (Sharon), Elizabeth, Ethan, Aidan, Alaina, Dylan, Zach, Colton, William, Lily, Cora, Leona, Grace, Bridget, Kendall, Michael, Aurora, Cara and Payge; her great, great, grandchildren: Ryder, Josie, Carter, Dulany, Ella and Ruby; her cats: Patches and Dusty and her dog, Ruffles.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Roger McClenaghan; her siblings: Eve Wilson, William Wilson, Marion Holl, Robert Wilson, Harold Wilson, Frances Lunn, Edna Drouin, Dottie Calogero, Charles Tannehill, David Wilson, great, great nephew Calvin, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Leona tried to stay close to the entire family and made sure the families knew each other to the best of her ability. Some nieces and nephews had a close relationship to her and it has carried into the next generations. She touched the hearts of all of them. The family she leaves behind include; Tammy (Larry), Karen (Jim), Jeff (Karen), Jack (Carter), Michael (Andrea), Samantha (Andrew), Brooke, Pierce, Everly, Walker, Janice (Michael), Jaclyn, Scott, Julie, Jordan, Audrey, Vera, Heather, Austin, Avanna, Avery, Karrie, Alexis, Joey, Alayna, Killian, Liam, Frank (Terri), Cayli (Ryan), Darla, Sarah (Mike), Debbie, Laura, Rolanda, Mary Marie, Alberta, Paul, James, Linda, Gary, Ryan, and Cheryl.
In honor of Leona’s wishes, no public services will be held.
