LeRoy W. Hurst, age 89, a lifelong Ashtabula County resident, currently residing in Ashtabula Harbor, died early Friday morning at the Jefferson Healthcare Center.
He was born May 25, 1930 in Dorset, the son of Claude O. & Saima M. (Sopanen) Hurst. LeRoy owned and operated his dairy farm in Dorset for many years before retirement.
LeRoy was a member of the Finnish American Heritage Association of Ashtabula, the Ashtabula County Holstein Club and the Lakeshore Artist Guild. His enjoyments included his art work, especially painting, woodworking, playing his guitar and was an avid Cleveland sports fan, especially the Indians.
Survivors include five children, William (Debra) Hurst of Dorset, Diann Hurst of Jefferson, James (Susan) Hurst of Columbus, Terri (Rachel Watson) Hurst of Jefferson & David (Tracey) Hurst of Jefferson; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Deborah in 2018; a grandson, Jerome Hurst; two sisters in infancy, Betty & Claudia Hurst and a brother, Robert Hurst.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 4-6 PM at the Jefferson Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors and Crematory, 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson. Cremation will follow the visitation with burial of cremains in Dorset Cemetery.
