Larry J. Cartner, 83, of Jefferson, Ohio, passed away peacefully September 21, 2021. He was born on November 9, 1937, in Ashtabula, Ohio.
Larry was a beloved husband of 58 years to June (Hall) and father of two sons, Todd (Ann), and Nolan (Kelly). He was also grandfather to Amanda, Sarah, Lisa, Adam, Erin, Hans, and Heidi and great-grandfather to Aiden, Lilliana, Vada, Torin, and Elijah. He leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents, John James and Dorothy Mae (Dodge) Cartner, sister Dorothy Louise (Cartner) Succi, William E. and Ethel Reeves who helped for many years with Larry’s upbringing, and special cousins, Paul (Butch) and Lloyd Warner.
Larry graduated the Class of 1955 from Ashtabula High School, and later Dyke College with an Associate’s degree in accounting. He worked for Ashtabula Bow Socket for 16 years and was an accountant-controller throughout his career.
Larry was past President of the church council at St. Paul’s Lutheran church of Jefferson, Ohio, and treasurer of the Indian Guides. He traveled and camped extensively with his family, was an avid reader, and also a lifelong Cleveland Browns and NASCAR fan. He will be remembered by all who knew him for his great smile, optimism, unique sense of humor, and love of running over toes with his wheelchair.
Larry was laid to rest in Oakdale Cemetery in Jefferson, Ohio. Donations in his memory may be sent as a tribute gift to the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s Camp Cheerful of Strongsville, Ohio at www.achievementcenters.org
