AUSTINBURG — Julia “Judy” M. Hanneman, 65, passed away unexpectedly on July 29, 2026, in the emergency room at Geneva Memorial Hospital.
Born December 16, 1960, in Ashtabula, Ohio, Judy was the daughter of Emil and Winifred “Winnie” (Wharram) Cerbin. She graduated from Geneva High School in 1979 and went on to earn her degree in medical assisting.
Judy dedicated many years of service to the Ashtabula County Clerk of Courts and, for the past three years, worked as a clerk for the Ashtabula City Municipal Court. Working as a medical assistant she worked for Dr. Cheng-Nan Huang, UH Geneva and Hillcrest Hospital OR.
She was known not only for her reliability, but for the strong work ethic that defined her life.
Above all else, Judy was a devoted mother. As a single mom, she worked tirelessly to give her children the best life she possibly could. Her strength, determination, and selflessness were evident in everything she did. She took immense pride in her children and the people they became, knowing her hard work and sacrifices helped shape their lives.
While being a mother meant everything to Judy, becoming a “Nana” brought her an even deeper joy. Her granddaughters were the light of her life, and she absolutely adored McKenzie, Whitney, and Kaci. She cherished every moment spent with them and took great pride in watching them grow, always speaking of them with love and admiration.
Judy also enjoyed time at her family cabin in Pennsylvania and was a devoted pet mom over the years, especially to her beloved dog, Tonka.
She is survived by her loving family: her mother, Winnie; her daughter, Olivia (Matt) Springer; her son, Andrew Hanneman; her cherished granddaughters, MaKenzie, Whitney, and Kaci Springer; her sisters, Cynthia “Cindy” (Ed) Pizzuto and Pamela “Pam” (Rick) Zack; 1 nephew, 4 nieces, 4 great-nephews, an aunt, an uncle and several cousins; and her dog, Tonka.
She was preceded in death by her father, Emil and niece Melanie Zack.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, August 2, 2026, at Fleming and Billman Funeral Home, 49 West Jefferson St., Jefferson, OH. Calling hours will be from 1:00–4:00 p.m., with the funeral service immediately following. Private family burial will take place on Monday at Austinburg Center Cemetery.
