Judy R. (Richmond) Long

JEFFERSON-Judy R. Long, 84, passed away unexpectedly on August 2, 2026, in the University Hospitals Conneaut Medical Center ER.

She was born on August 28, 1941, in Ashtabula, Ohio, the daughter of Herman and Esther (Pontius) Richmond.

Judy was a graduate of Jefferson High School, Class of 1959.  She worked for many years at GE in Jefferson and then went on to study cosmetology and became a beautician, working for 20 years at Jefferson Healthcare Center as their hairdresser and an activities coordinator, a job she thoroughly enjoyed and took great pride in.

While Judy found satisfaction in her work and hobbies, the true center of her life was always her children. Being a mother was her greatest calling and deepest joy, and everything she did was guided by her love for them.

She was an active member of Bulah Calvary United Methodist Church and of the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed baking and decorating cakes, she made so many beautiful wedding cakes over the years for family and friends and always donated pies, cookies, ice cream and homemade fudge to church fundraisers.  She loved crafting, tending to her plants and flower gardens, and took special pleasure in watching and feeding the birds that visited the many bird feeders around her home; she was also a cat lover and had them as her pets for many years in her home. These simple joys surrounded the home where she devoted herself to raising her family.

Above all, Judy’s greatest source of pride came from the three children she raised. She lived her life for them, always working hard to provide for them, and her support and love were never ending and always unconditional. To say her children and grandchildren were her life would be an understatement; they were the reason she got up each day, the purpose behind every sacrifice, and the happiness in her heart.  She will be so dearly missed and was so deeply loved, and her children will rejoice when they are all together again in Heaven.

She is survived by her loving family, her children: Jeff (Kathy) Long, Janis Long, and Jodi Long; her grandchildren: Jenny (Justin) Rife, David (Jess) Dulberger, Matt (Lauren) Long, Adam (Mariah) Dulberger, and Kevin (Christine Love) Long; and her great-grandchildren: Dillon, Blake, Gabe, Jacob, Isla, Caleb, Tyler, and one on the way.  She was preceded in death by her parents and her former husband, Joseph W. Long, in 2021. 

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 15, at Fleming-Billman Funeral Home, 49 West Jefferson Street, Jefferson, OH. Calling hours will be from 10:00–11:00 a.m., with the funeral service beginning at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Gageville Cemetery.  A luncheon will be held in her honor at the Bulah Calvary United Methodist Church, 2070 OH-193, Jefferson, Ohio following her funeral services.
