Joyce Mae Snyder

Joyce M. Snyder, 88, of Ashtabula, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.

Joyce was born to Olive and Gilbert Broughton on October 15, 1934, in Ashtabula OH. She met the love of her life, Junior “J. R.” Snyder, at the skating rink on Jefferson Road. They were married in Biloxi MS, where J. R. was attending U. S.  Air Force technical training. They were then stationed at Carswell Air Force Base in Fort Worth TX, where Joyce gave birth to their son, Steven. The family moved back to Ashtabula after J.R. left military service and moved into their home in the Sleepy Hollow allotment. Joyce and J. R. enjoyed 65 years together.

Joyce was a Laboratory Tech at Michelson’s Greenhouse for many years. She and J. R. also owned and operated a laundromat for several years in Edgewood. Joyce attended all of Steve’s baseball games, bowled in leagues at several bowling alleys, enjoyed playing cards, golfing, going to casinos, and especially spending time with family and friends.

Joyce and J. R. made frequent trips to visit Steve and his family in Colorado Springs CO, and through the years were there for many special occasions, graduations, and weddings. Steve’s family often visited Ashtabula. According to her granddaughter, Sydney, Joyce loved taking her and her brother, Phillip, to Sea World every summer when they were young!

She is survived by her son, Steven (Mary) Snyder, her grandchildren, Phillip (Stephanie) and Sydney Snyder and her great grandchild, Nolan Snyder.

Joyce is preceded in death by her husband, Junior Snyder, her brother, William Broughton and parents.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, August 6, 2023 from 11:00a- 12:00p with funeral service at 12:00p at Fleming & Billman Funeral Home, 526 W. Prospect Road Ashtabula, Ohio.
