John W. Corkrean, age 97 of Lenox Twp., died early Sunday morning at Saybook Landing.
He was born February 17, 1923 in Ashtabula, the son of Andrew & Marie (Diemer) Corkrean and has lived in this area all of his life. John was married to Dorothy M. Scott on November 13, 1943 at St. Joseph Calasanctius Church in Jefferson. He owned and operated Corkrean Lumber & Pallet Co.
John & Dorothy have wintered in Florida for 40 years. Before opening his lumber business, he ran a sawmill with a team of horses. He loved working and tinkering in his garage, he was a “handyman” of all sorts.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; four children, James “Andy” Corkrean of Clearwater, FL, Constance M. Seaman of Ravenna, Mary E. Bettcher of Madison & Kathleen J. Corkrean of Jefferson; 10 grandchildren, Kristina Braun, Chuck Lipps, Melissa Campagna, Jane Ryan, MaryAnn Fox, Susan McAfoos, Matthew Bettcher, Zachary Bettcher, Sarah Hicks & Luke Bettcher; 16 great-grandchildren, Alaina, Anthony, Isabela, Sophia, Katelyn, Christopher “CJ”, Briana, Brandon, Samantha “Sammi”, Logan, Kylie, Aiden, Finnigan, Wren, Eli & Emmett and two great-great-grandchildren, Kaiden & Carter.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Roberta “Bobbie” McAfoos; a grandson, Richard Seaman, Jr. and two sisters, Marie Topper & Josephine Curie.
