Jodi Schmidt Obituary

Jodi Ann (Colvenbach) Schmidt, 52, of Jefferson, passed away unexpectedly on November 24, 2025.

Born on May 23, 1973, in Cleveland, Ohio, she was the beloved daughter of James and Betty (Paxton) Colvenbach.

Jodi graduated from Jefferson High School in 1991 and later attended the University of Akron. For more than 23 years, she devoted herself to the Jefferson school system as a bus aide and event and ticket activity manager, where she cared deeply for the students, staff, and coworkers who became like family. Within her transportation and activities teams, she was a steady, positive force who stepped in wherever she was needed, encouraged others, and helped keep everything running smoothly behind the scenes. Her colleagues knew they could count on her for a listening ear, a helping hand, and a good laugh on even the toughest days, and she was proud to be such an important part of the Falcon staff. She was a trusted, dependable presence and a cherished member of the Jefferson Falcon community, and she was grateful for the lifelong friendships she formed there.

On August 27, 1994, Jodi married Lawrence V. Schmidt, and together they created a warm, loving, and welcoming home for their two sons, James V. and Austin A., who were the center of her world. She took immense pride in her boys and was their constant supporter through every stage of their lives. An only child who lost her father at 14, Jodi shared an especially close bond with her mother, Betty, and the two were inseparable through the years.

Jodi loved cooking, shopping, and marking every holiday with enthusiasm, especially Christmas and Halloween. She treasured her annual girls’ trips and rarely missed an opportunity to travel, particularly if it meant time at the beach. She was involved with the Jefferson PTO, and for the past 15 summers she worked as a gate guard at the Roaming Shores Community Pool, greeting families and neighbors with her familiar smile.

She is survived by her husband, Lawrence; her sons, James and Austin; her mother, Betty Colvenbach; and many dear friends who were as close as family. She was preceded in death by her father, who passed away in 1987

In lieu of flowers the family asks that if you want to give something have it be a snowman - Jodi always thought someone being there to support a family during a loss was way more important than flowers being sent.
