Joan Higerd, 76 of Ashtabula died Monday (Nov. 25th) at the Ashtabula County Medical Center. She was born March 19, 1943 in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania the daughter of Dr. John R. and Marjorie (Hooper) Higerd.
Joan had worked as a respiratory therapist at ACMC and was also a real estate agent for many years.
She was also a member of the Ashtabula Power Squadron. Joan’s involvement in the local Living with Cancer Support Group as well as with Al-Anon family groups touched the lives of many. Joan loved sailing, traveling, and spending time with her family.
Surviving her is the love of her life, William M. Cummings of Ashtabula; five children, Lisa L. (Pat Miller) Lester of Hartsgrove, Deborah S. Brockhurst of Ashtabula, John R. (Karen Vosser) Brockhurst of Geneva, Christine Cummings of Montreal Quebec and Colleen Cummings of Palmetto, Florida; nine grandchildren, Sherri, Amanda, Scotty, Zachary, Shawn, Joshua, Jessica, Mathieu and Ericka and ten great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and by a brother, John R. Higerd in 1962.
A celebration of life will be Saturday (Nov. 30th) at 11:00 am at the Ashtabula Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors and Crematory, 526 W. Prospect Rd. Ashtabula with Alisa Nierzejewski, certified celebrant officiating.
