James N. Shirk, 92, passed away unexpectedly at his home on October 10, 2022.
Jim was born November 19, 1929, in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of Howard and Edith (Waite) Shirk.
On October 15, 1948, Jim married the love of his life, Eleanor Hanson. Together they were blessed with 72 years of love and happiness.
Jim joined the United States Army in 1952 and proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict.
He retired in 1981 after 30 years with Union Carbide.
He was an avid golfer, who also enjoyed fishing and helping everyone with their remolding projects; Jim was known to his family, friends and neighbors as a” Jack of all trades”. He loved to make birdhouses for his friends and family. Jim most of all enjoyed his family and being called “Papa” was his favorite thing in the world. His precious dog Lily holds a special place in his heart, especially this past year since Eleanor’s passing.
Jim is survived by his children: Virginia (Brian) Edixon and Norman (Judy) Shirk; his grandchildren: Andrew and Brandon Shirk; and his dog Lily.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Eleanor (Hanson) Shirk in 2021, and two siblings Theodore D. Shirk and Donna D. Clayman.
A brief funeral service will be held on Monday, October 17, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Chapel, 3140 E. Center Street, North Kingsville, Ohio, with Pastor Edward Pickard officiating.
