James “Reed” Piper, 83, passed away on November 16, 2022, at his home in Jefferson, Ohio.
He was born on August 24, 1939, in Leechburg, Pennsylvania, the son of James and Helen Piper.
After graduating from high school, Reed attended Robert Morris Business School in Pittsburgh where he received an associate degree.
He married the love of his life, Sharon McAllister on November 19, 1966, they shared fifty-six years of wonderful marriage together.
Reed was employed as a school custodian for Jefferson Schools for twenty-five years until his retirement in 2005.
Reed was a loyal and dedicated member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church for more than forty years and was a member of the church’s Men’s Group. He was a volunteer at Manna Food Pantry in Jefferson.
He enjoyed tending to his hydrangea garden and traveling. He especially loved going on Holland-America cruises; he went on twenty cruises over the years and explored every continent except Antarctica.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sharon Piper; his beloved children: Lyn Palm of South Carolina and Elizabeth (Timothy) Witcher of Montana; his grandchildren: Nicholas Palm, Katherine Palm, Izabella Martin and Cody Martin and his brother, Terry (Paulette) Piper.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. with a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Jefferson. A luncheon will be held after the Funeral Service. Burial will immediately follow the Luncheon at Oakdale Cemetery in Jefferson at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Hospice of the Western Reserve or the American Cancer Society.
