Hildegard Helene (Hardt) Goodale, 90, passed away on August 28,2026 at the Meadow Falls Senior Living facility in Ashtabula, Ohio.

Hildegard was born on April 26,1936 in Engenhahn, West Germany.

Hilde married her husband John F. Goodale February 7,1958 in Germany before returning to the states from John’s service time in the U.S. Army.

She was a homemaker taking care of not only the home, but her yearly garden, multiple flower beds, her bird feeders and helped John however she could with barn chores, lawn care and even helped him in the garage as he worked on cars, trucks and equipment when needed. She always enjoyed visits from her family and friends, especially after her husband’s passing in 2008.

Hildegard is survived by her son Hugh (Jill)Goodale, son-in-law Derren Cole, seven grandchildren, Kristi Cole, Denice(Ben) Ellis, Joseph Goodale, Daniel Goodale, Jarrod Cole, Heather(Frank) Stone and Ashley Cole. She is also survived by 10 great grandchildren, Melanie Davis, Daniel Goodale Jr., Rebekah Ellis, Madeline Ellis, Gabriel Stone, Kayla Goodale, Nora Ellis, Addison Stone, David Goodale and David Robinson. Other survivors include her brother Hans and his wife Waltraud Hardt, nieces Elvira Steifel, Patti (Strausser) Gillespie, Kay (Strausser) Gurtz, Kim Strausser, Sandra (Ely) Wheelock, nephews Heribert Hardt, James Ely and several great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband John Goodale, daughter Rose (Goodale) Cole, sister Elizabeth Hardt, parents Alfred and Maria Hardt, her father and mother-in-law, Hugh and Lilah (Sheldon)Goodale, sister-in-laws, Marguerite (Goodale)Doerge-Foster, Hazel (Goodale)Strausser and Helen (Goodale)Ely and a niece Marguerite “Peggy” (Doerge) Hart.

A graveside service will be held on Friday September 4, 2026 at 11am at Oakdale Cemetery in Jefferson, Ohio.
