Helen Hazeltine, 88, former Saybrook Twp. resident and currently living in the Ashtabula Country Club Retirement Center, died Monday, March 1, 2021.
She was born March 1, 1933 in Lorain, Ohio, the daughter of Gust and Sylvia (Melanoff) Dioneff and has been an Ashtabula resident all her life.
She married Arthur C. Hazeltine on November 20, 1955 in Ashtabula.
Helen worked at Balkin Bakery in Ashtabula, with her grandfather when she was a young girl. Later she worked for many years at Happy’s donuts. She loved any job where she got to deal with people directly. She will always be remembered for her warm and friendly personality.
She liked to cook and bake for her family. Helen also enjoyed long Sunday rides with her family, with one of her favorite locations to visit being Wellsboro, Pennsylvania.
She is survived by two children: Deborah (Charlie Notarianni) Hazeltine and Richard “Rick” (Deniece) Hazeltine; both of Ashtabula; two brothers: James (Bonnie) Dioneff; of North Kingsville, OH., Boris (Shirley) Dioneff, of Perry, OH.; four granddaughters: Michelle Hazeltine, Angela Hicks, Lacey Hicks and Nicole Hazeltine; and her six great-grandchildren: Elijah, Isiah, Xavier, Aiden, Noah and Claire.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Arthur.
Private family visitation will be Thursday from 11:00AM to 12:00PM with services at 12:00 PM at the Ashtabula Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors and Crematory, 526 W. Prospect Rd., with Alisa Nierzejewski certified celebrant leading the service. Burial will be in Saybrook Cemetery.
