Hazel M. (Downs) McFarland-Ouillette

Hazel M. Ouillette, age 94, residing in Ashtabula with her daughter and longtime Jefferson resident, died Sunday afternoon at the Ashtabula Co. Medical Center.

Hazel loved creating things and she often made the cards and gifts she gave to people.  She constantly had three or more projects going at once, which could include anything from wood crafts, to counted cross stitch, to acrylic painting, or a new sewing project.  She also enjoyed teaching others how to make different crafts such as her ceramic candy dishes. If she didn't have it then she would find a way to make it!  She was an avid reader and book lover.  You could often find her at the First Congregational Church of Christ in Jefferson where she was very active with the Church Belle's. She served as past matron of the former Sunshine Chapter #89 OES.  Hazel truly cared about everyone around her and she loved making people happy.

She is a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Jefferson where she was active with the Church Belle’s.  She served as past matron of the former Sunshine Chapter #89 OES.  Hazel was an extremely artistic person, enjoying ceramics, counted cross stitch, sewing, wood crafts and acrylic painting.

Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, William McFarland in 1984 whom she married on April 10, 1946 and August Ouillette in 1996, whom she married on June 12, 1988.  She was also preceded in death by a son, Charles McFarland and a brother, William Downs.

Survivors include a daughter, Susan M. (McFarland) Addair Bluhm; three grandchildren Dustin (Amanda) Addair of Thompson, Jessica (Jim Duncan, partner) Bluhm of Albuquerque, NM & Logan (Ashley Watson, partner) Bluhm of Euclid, Jessica and Logan are both Grand Valley High Scholl graduates and two great-grandchildren, Nathan & Kylie Addair.

Funeral services will be Monday at 10:30AM at the Jefferson Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors and Crematory, 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson with the Rev. Jim Stanley officiating. 

Visitation will be Monday from 9:30-10:30AM.  Masks and social distancing guidelines will be observed.  Private burial will be in Trumbull Cemetery.  Memorial contributions to the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 41 E.
