Harold “Ray” Mosser

JEFFERSON — Harold “Ray” Mosser, 78, passed away peacefully with the love of his family by his side on August 19, 2026, at The Reserve Care Hospice House in Cleveland, following a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born January 24, 1948, in Warren, Ohio, the son of Raymond C. and Elsie A. (Houghton) Mosser. Ray graduated from Ashtabula High School in 1966 and continued his studies at Kent State University. He proudly served his country in the United States Army for two years during the Vietnam War.

On December 23, 1967, Ray married his one true love, Joyce L. Johns. For 59 years, they shared a marriage rooted in love, friendship, happiness, and an abiding devotion to one another. Above all else, Ray loved his family. He was a devoted husband, loving father, proud “Poppy” and “Great-Poppy”, and he cherished the time and memories he shared with those closest to him.

Ray devoted 30 years to the Ashtabula County Joint Vocational School, where he taught collision repair from 1975 until his retirement in 2004. He genuinely loved teaching and held a special place in his heart for the many students whose lives he touched. Ray took tremendous pride in their accomplishments, particularly those who remained in the collision-repair profession or established businesses of their own. He always looked forward to reconnecting with former students and hearing of their success.

A gifted and talented automotive restorationist, Ray had a lifelong love of classic and historic cars. He enjoyed the careful work, craftsmanship, and satisfaction involved in restoring special vehicles, including his 1937 Ford Sedan Delivery, 1956 Ford Thunderbird, and 1935 Ford Sedan. He was a member of Goodguys Classic Cars, the National Street Rod Association, and the Vintage Street Rod Association. Ray also enjoyed fishing, boating, and deep-water fishing on Lake Erie.

Ray will be deeply missed by his loving family: his wife, Joyce; daughter, Tammy Peck (Bryan Cruz); son, Harold “Chief” Mosser; granddaughter, Harleigh Peck (Aaron Painter); great-grandson, Barrett Painter; sister, Rose (Bob) Stemler; and sister-in-law, Neva Salrin.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Leonard Salrin.

Calling hours will be held Sunday, August 23, 2026, at the Fleming-Billman Funeral Home, 49 West Jefferson St., Jefferson, Ohio, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.  Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Dorset Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Ray’s name to Feed the Vets or Reserve Care Hospice.
