JEFFERSON-Guy James Hansford, 91, passed away on June 28, 2024, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.
He was born in Kerens, West Virginia on December 2, 1932.
Guy graduated from Parsons High School in 1951and was later inducted to the school’s Hall of Fame. Guy received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from West Virginia University.
Guy very proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War.
On August 1, 1963, Guy married Carolyn Sue Ranson. Together they shared 61 years of love and happiness, being blessed with three sons and a lifetime of priceless memories together.
Guy was a biology teacher at Jefferson Area High School for 29 years, finally retiring in June of 1988. He loved his community and was always willing to help in any way possible. He was a past Mayor of the Village of Jefferson and a past Village Councilman; he served on the Jefferson Area School Board from 1990-1997. He was also a member of the Jefferson Exchange Club and the Jefferson Rotary Club.
He loved to travel and was blessed to have been able to visit all 50 states, many countries in Europe as well as Canada, Mexico and Panama. He enjoyed hunting, gardening, playing pinochle and he loved furthering his education, earning 30 more credit hours after his master’s degree.
He is survived by his loving family; his wife. Carolyn Sue Hansford; his three sons: Monte (Beth) of Burke’s Garden, Virginia, Craig (Verena) of Innsbruck, Austria, and Derek (Ann) of Columbus, Ohio; his grandchildren: Corey, Lia, Noah and Nicky; his great-granddaughter, Nora; his sister-in-law, Rilla Starcher; his cousins, Rita and Alice, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Edna and his uncle, Guy Summerfield, and several of his beloved in-laws.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 5, 2024, at the Fleming-Billman Funeral Home, 49 W. Jefferson Street, Jefferson, Ohio. Calling hours will be from 11:00-1:00 with funeral services starting at 1:00 with Pastor Kevin Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery with military honors.
