Gretchen A. Long, age 76 of Austinburg Twp., died late Sunday evening at UH Geneva Medical Center.
She was born June 22, 1944 in Germany, the daughter of Adolph & Emma (Bazzler) Blum and has lived in Ashtabula Co. since the age of five, both Rock Creek and Austinburg area. She was married to David E. Long, Jr. on September 5, 1970 in Austinburg Twp. Gretchen worked a short time at Smith & Wesson.
Gretchen was baptized at the City Church in Geneva on July 11, 2018. She enjoyed gardening, reading and music. Her greatest joy was taking care of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her parents.
She is survived by her husband, David; four children, Tammie Turner of Ashtabula, Michael Long of Edinboro, PA, Lynette Maydak of Geneva & Erich (Kelly Jo) Long of Dresden; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and a sister, Erika Smith of Warren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Adolph & Emma; her grandmother, Oma Timm and her grandson, Hayden Long.
Private funeral service are being held at the Jefferson Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors and Crematory, 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson with the Rev. Bill Terry of the Austinburg United Church of Christ officiating. Burial will follow in Morgan Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to the Seidman Cancer Center, UH Geneva Medical Center, 870 W. Main Rd., Geneva, OH 44041.
