Gilbert Lee Brewer

Gilbert Lee Brewer, 87, of Ashtabula, OH, surrounded by family, went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 20, 2023. He was born on May 15, 1936, in Corry PA, son of the late Hiram and Helen Brewer.

Gil graduated from Corry High School in 1955 and from Erie Business College in 1957. He managed Colony Food Town in Erie, PA for many years and worked for Pepsi for 26 years before retiring. He is affectionately known as “Pepsi” grandpa to his grandchildren.

Gil enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family and lifelong friends Leo UI and Clark Bachofner. He loved his yearly fishing trips to Canada and particularly enjoyed the beauty of Montana. He loved to travel, dance, and go to yard sales. He enjoyed his garden every summer. He enjoyed going to the Bible Baptist Church in Ashtabula.

Gil is survived by his wife Paula (Grubb) Brewer, who he married on September 7, 2002, his children: Tammy Mitchell (Mario), Gilbert “Lee” Brewer, Jr. (Tammy Sue), Randy Brewer, Linda Grubb, Darlene (David) Carlton, Vonda Grubb and Beverly (Larry) Allgood. He had 10 grandchildren: Samuel (Faith), Seth (Sarah), Stephen (Brandy), Becky (Casey) Surls, Jaylnn, Aiden, Lynnea, Nikki Dondrea, David Carlton Jr., Rasheed (Ckayla), and the late Tyler Grubb who passed in 2018 and 15 great grandchildren. Gil also had a granddoggy Marley that he adored.

The family will receive friends Monday, July 24, 2023, from 4:00pm-6:00pm at Fleming & Billman Funeral Home at 526 W. Prospect Rd., Ashtabula, OH 44004. The Funeral will be held on Tuesday, July 25, 2023 at 11:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff for the wonderful care they gave Gil.
