George Alan Kapferer, 78, of Conneaut, Ohio, went to be with our Lord on November 16, 2025. He was followed, as he often was in life, by his beloved wife of 60 years, Connie, just five days later.
Born on January 31, 1947, in Ashtabula, Ohio, George was the son of Robert George Kapferer and Gertrude M. (Slaven) Kapferer. The second son and fourth of six children, George grew up on a farm on East Union Road in Jefferson. He graduated from Jefferson High School, where he met his high school sweetheart and future wife, Connie Taggart.
George was a hard worker in every sense of the word. Over the years, he worked at Namco Controls, RMI Titanium, and RMI Extrusion. He spent 21 years at Millennium as a maintenance mechanic, and he served for many years as a volunteer firefighter with the Dorset Fire Department. Even in retirement, George couldn’t sit still—he was always cutting wood, fixing something, or lending a hand to anyone in need.
A man of strong faith, George was a devoted member of the Church of the Nazarene, where he and Connie were married. He led Sunday school classes, organized Christmas toy drives, and assembled care kits for children in need around the world. He lived his faith quietly, leading by example through actions more than words.
George loved the outdoors—whether he was in one of his hand-built tree stands, out with his metal detector, or cutting and stacking firewood. He was a skilled hunter and led Hunter Safety Course camps that his own grandchildren attended. Beyond the hunt, he was known for his beloved venison jerky and backstraps. He had a natural humor, often hilarious without trying, and was a storyteller who could make anyone laugh. He was the kind of person who made a room feel lighter just by being in it.
George is reunited in Heaven with his parents; his loving wife, Connie; his brother, Robert (Bob) Kapferer; and his brother-in-law, Ernie Pitts.
He is survived by his sisters, Trudy Pitts, Lillian (Rich) Howe, Diana (Star) Sturgill, and Donna (Mark) Thomas; his sister-in-law, Ann Kapferer; his two daughters, Julie (Vince) Bednar and Kim (Ron) Carter; his five grandchildren, Eric (Molly) Woodin, Justin (Rebecca) Woodin, Michael Woodin, Paige Clark, and Kourtney (John) Norris; and his four great-grandchildren, Annaleigh, Austin, Ana, and Laney Woodin. He also leaves behind his dog, Tootsie, and his cats, Pipsqueak and Sparky.
Though we grieve his passing, we celebrate the life he lived—a life built on faith, family, and hard work. Those lucky enough to have known George will remember his laugh, his stories, and the way he showed love in the simple things—a bag of jerky, a helping hand, or a story told one more time for good measure.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, November 28, from 4–7 p.m. at the Church of the Nazarene, 55 E Satin St, Jefferson, OH 44047. Additional calling hours will be held on Saturday, November 29, from 12–1 p.m., with the funeral service beginning at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Dorset Cemetery. A luncheon will be held afterward at the church.
