Ernest “Bud” A. Carlson, born September 7, 1941, in Ashtabula, Ohio, to Ernest W. and Frances (Welton) Carlson, he lived a life defined by family, faith, and hard work. A proud graduate of Austinburg High School, Class of 1959, Ernest went on to serve his country in the United States Air Force. After his military service, he built a lifelong career as a dedicated tool and die maker, working for True Temper, Bow Socket, and S&S Tool/General Aluminum. His craftsmanship reflected his deep commitment to providing for his loved ones—a value learned from his youth working on a dairy farm and carried faithfully throughout his life. On December 24, 1964, Bud married his one true love, Barbara L. (Collins). Together they shared 62 years of marriage rooted in devotion, laughter, and unshakable partnership. Family was always Bud’s greatest joy, and nothing brought him more pride than watching his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren grow. Bud was known for his strong work ethic and kind heart. He enjoyed stock car racing in his younger years, and his lifelong love of the outdoors led him to farming, raising beef cattle, and working with horses. Whether hunting, bowling, skiing and snowmobiling, or attending antique tractor shows, his energy and enthusiasm touched everyone around him. He also found fulfillment in helping youth through 4-H, Boy Scouts, and Cub Scouts—sharing the lessons of responsibility and commitment that guided his own life. A man of faith and community, Bud was a member of St. Peter’s Church and St. Joseph Church and a Mason at the Harbor Lodge. He took pride in caring for his property, finding peace in gardening, trail riding, and spending time with his beloved dog, “Tigger.” He is survived by his wife Barbara; his children: Debby (Ted) Sarbiewski, Diane (Warren) Gisentaner, David L. (Denise) Carlson, and Dawn (Vinny) Delacruz; his 13 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Patricia (Kenny) Gough and Tom (Barbara) Carlson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Frances Carlson; his grandson, Adam Monda; his brother, James Carlson; and his sister, Janet Crudel. Family and friends are invited to gather on Saturday, April 18th at Fleming-Billman Funeral Home, 526 W. Prospect Rd., Ashtabula, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM for calling hours with a service to follow at 1:00 PM, services will conclude with Veterans Memorial Honors. Bud’s life will be remembered as one of love, labor, and devotion to those who meant the most—his family.
