Erna M. Bish, age 90, died on April 24th, 2022, at Violet Springs Health Campus in Pickerington, OH. Born on December 28, 1931, in McDowell, KY, she was the daughter of Everett and Wilma (Hopkins) Jones. She had lived in Ashtabula for 70 years before relocating to be with family in the Columbus area in 2015. She married Kenneth Bish on April 21, 1951, and they celebrated 64 years of marriage.
Throughout most of her life, Erna enjoyed sewing, reading, and cheering on Cleveland sports teams. She was a lifelong music fan and enjoyed listening to new artists and songs. She kept up to date on current events and politics and loved to discuss what was happening in the world. After moving to Pickerington, she became a fierce assisted living bingo competitor and participated in a variety of activities and events with friends. Above all else, Erna loved spending time with her family. She was an excellent cook and baker, and she ensured that holidays were always special for everyone around her.
She is survived by her dear sister-in-law Donna (Clarence) Bibbee of Ashtabula; by her four children, Terri (Alan) Sanders of Collierville, TN; Gary (Colleen) Bish of Painesville; Linda (Mark) of Pickerington and Tracy (Dean) of Pickerington, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Diana Fisher, Jeffery Bish, Gregory Bish, Amy Scott, Jason Sanders, Lauren Sanders, Riley Hampton, and Maddie Sabetta; and sixteen great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Kenneth; her daughter Janet in 1960; brothers Edgele (Loretta), Carlos, and Donald (Myrna) Jones; her sister Vivian (Johnny) Benedict, and her mother-in-law, Nora Bish.
Visitation will be Wednesday April 27, 2022 from 5:00-7:00 at Fleming & Billman Funeral Home at 526 West Prospect Road in Ashtabula, funeral services will also be Wednesday evening at 7:00 at the funeral home. Graveside burial will be held on Thursday at Saybrook Township Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. Should you wish to send flowers, the family requests that you consider ordering from a local florist in Ashtabula to help support the community that has meant so much to the Bish family over the years.
