Doris Luoma Obituary

Doris Irene Luoma, 89, of Ashtabula, Ohio, peacefully passed away in her home in the presence of loved ones on October 30th, 2021.

Doris was born in Erie, Pennsylvania, to Lulu and Roy Kelley on August 29th, 1932. She married Bill Luoma in 1951 and they remained married until Bill’s passing in 2020. She worked at People’s Savings Bank for 20 years, volunteered as a tax preparer at AARP, and was an avid researcher of genealogy in her spare time.

Doris was born in the Great Depression to a large family of eleven siblings and half siblings. She moved forty two times within the region southeast of Lake Erie between Jamestown, New York, and Ashtabula, Ohio. As a young girl, Doris briefly had a Painted Pony named Daisy, and as a retiree she had a Boston terrier of the same name. Her great and generous heart housed many animals, causes, friends, and family members in between the Daisies. In her final years, she overcame the increasing limitations of COPD to be with family across the country, from Florida to California. She was a master of affection and it was repaid by a score of friends and family stopping by to say their goodbyes in her final days and by the additional multitude of people who commented on her Facebook page once the struggle ended.

Doris is survived by her loyal Coton de Tulear, Maddie. She is survived by her three doting children, Wendy Henry, William (Cheryl) Luoma, and Cheryl (Charles) Hannan. She is survived by her five grateful grandchildren, Eric (Laura) Henry, Kurt (Harvinder) Henry, Chris Tuttle, Robby Tuttle, and Lydia (Сhris Bunder) Tuttle. She is survived by her blessed great grandchildren, Stella, Lilly, and Bodhi Henry. She is survived by innumerable devoted nieces and nephews. And finally, she is survived by her kind example, which will be cherished by everyone she left behind.

A memorial service will be Saturday (Nov. 6th) at 12:00 pm at the Fleming & Billman Funeral Home, 526 W. Prospect Rd. Ashtabula with Alisa Nierzejewski certified celebrant officiating.

Visitation will be Saturday from 11:00 am until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be held later at Lulu Falls Cemetery in Kingsville, Ohio.
