Doris M. Hinkle age 87, passed away Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at the Jefferson Healthcare Center where she resided.
She was born January 1, 1933 in Union Township, PA, the first daughter born to Russell & Mildred (Murdock) Means. Doris was one of nine children.
Doris worked in her teenage years at Ames Theater in Jefferson. She married Fred Hinkle on December 2, 1950 in the parsonage of the Jefferson Methodist Church, where they were active members for many years. Doris was a Sunday school teacher for 40 years. She was also a Girl Scout Troop leader. Doris worked for many years at Carlisle’s Warehouse in Ashtabula until her retirement. Doris and Fred enjoyed camping at the Alleghany State Park with their family and spending winters in Florida.
Doris is survived by her children, Gary Hinkle, Jeff (Jane) Hinkle, Laurie (Don) Locy and Todd (Sara) Hinkle; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Ethel Hunt and brothers, Bob (Linda) Means & Cliff (Virginia) Means.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 69 years, Fred on November 23, 2020 and brothers, Russell, Clyde, Ronnie, Dale & John Means.
No public services will be held. A private graveside service will be held in Oakdale Cemetery with the Rev. Douglas Winner of the Jefferson United Methodist Church officiating.
