Doris Jane Havens, 87, passed away Saturday, August 23, 2025, in Parish, New York where she has made her home for the past 5 years.
She was born on January 25, 1938, in Ashtabula, Ohio, the daughter of Milton and Louise (Hinkle) Mullen.
Doris was the valedictorian and graduation commencement speaker of Ashtabula High School’s class of 1956.
She worked in finance and banking for the majority of her career. She worked for Wheeler Manufacturing and Farmers National Bank, and in 1979 she was asked by Union Carbide to run their credit union. She grew that credit union into one of Ashtabula County’s largest credit unions, which eventually became the Lakeview Federal Credit Union; she served as President and CEO until her retirement in2002. In her years at the credit union, she built up some of the greatest friendships and relationships of her life; friends that she still has to this day.
On March 19, 1965, Doris married Daniel D. Havens at the Jefferson First Baptist Church. She and Dan were blessed with 60 years of marriage and with 4 children that provided them with the most precious memories.
Doris and Dan had a strong Christian faith; they were very active members of the Jefferson First Baptist Church. She directed the choir, volunteered at Vacation Bible School, worked as a Sunday School teacher and at the food pantry. Doris was an avid reader and enjoyed baking and her flower gardens at home.
She is survived by her loving family; her husband, Daniel; her children: Kristy Durkovic, Mark (Laura) Durkovic, her daughter-in-law, Michele Havens, and her son Bruce (Kimberly) Havens; her grandchildren: Amber Durkovic, Margaret (Zachary) Jones, Rachel (Andrew) Lamb, Lydia (Neeko Gonzalez) Durkovic, Abigail Durkovic, Chelsea Havens, Mackenzie Havens, Cameron Havens, Isaac (Althea) Havens, Zachary (Haley) Havens and Hannah Havens; her great grandchildren: Liam, Laura Anne, Lucy, Maisie, Layne, Beaumont, Milo, and one on the way.
She was preceded in death by her son Douglas Havens in 2015, her parents and her sister Janet Durkovic.
