Debra M. Coursen
On June 27, 2026 Debra Marie Coursen went home to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ peacefully surrounded by her family.
A lifelong resident of Ashtabula, Debbie was born on April 2, 1965 to Douglas R & Lillian A (Taggart) Coursen.
While this breaks our hearts to write, it’s so important to us for all to know who our mom was…
Her soul was gentle. Her love was contagious. She was a protector. She had a heart so big that even the kindest of us pale in comparison.
Her family was her entire world. Nothing could stand between her and her family. Especially once she became a Noona. As her 4 grandchildren affectionately called her, being their noona became her identity. Whether on coffee cups or her phone case, she wanted to make sure everyone knew how much she loved being their noona. Nightly FaceTimes, magical holidays, all the “let me get those cheeks,” her love for them will be forever engrained in their souls.
A savant in the kitchen, she showed much of her love with her cooking. Every Sunday we’d hear “mangia!” from the kitchen and we all knew we were in for a meal. Whether it be the Italian dishes she learned to cook from her grandma, Floretta, or the hearty home style dishes from our grandma Lill, she took pride in making sure everyone enjoyed every morsel.
She was a fighter. She fought until the very end. Her mission was accomplished. We are at peace knowing she is at our peace with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
She is survived by her mother, Lillian Coursen of Ashtabula. Sons, David (Kristen) Budy of Warren & Chad (Anneliese) Budy of Plain City. Grandchildren: Lina, Layla, Roman & Rocco; Bonus Grandchildren: Ben, Ellie & Judah. Nieces & nephew: Mallory (Devan, Oliver & Eli) Winters, Douglas R Coursen II &
Gabriella (Devilin) Hamrick all of Ashtabula. As well as many uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family that all loved her dearly.
She also leaves behind her dear friends: Kristi Montalvo-Lopez, Kashunda Barnes & Heather Tobias.
She was preceded in death by her father Douglas R Coursen, sisters Linda Coursen & Jennifer Hamrick. Cousin Kenneth Jonas, nephew Jeffrey Mead and many aunts and uncles. As well as her beloved pup, Mia Rose.
We would like to give special thanks to her co-workers and friends at Adoration Hospice for their action and support. Without Matt & Jen we would have had 5 less days with our mom.
We’d also like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of Ashtabula County Medical Center and Cleveland Clinic Hillcrest for their compassion and expertise.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday July 2, 2026 at Fleming-Billman Funeral Home 526 W Prospect Rd Ashtabula; calling hours will be from 11:00-1:00 with her funeral starting at 1:00. Burial will follow in Ridgeview Cemetery.
