Charles "Chuck" Judson Obituary

Charles “Chuck” Emmett Judson, 77, passed away in his home surrounded by his wife and family on October 4, 2022, following a courageously-fought four-year battle with plasma cell leukemia.

Chuck was born June 14, 1945, in Ashtabula, Ohio, the son of George Harley and Emma Elizabeth (Swigart) Judson.

Chuck graduated from Geneva High School in 1963. On September 18, 1965, he married Ruth L. Hall.  They were blessed with 57 years of happiness, a family, and many cherished memories.  He proudly served in the US Army for three years from 1966-1969 during the Vietnam War, where he received multiple recognitions for his service: the Army Commendation Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Sharpshooter Medal and National Defense Service Medal.  Ruth joined him for two years in Germany, where he was stationed, and they did some traveling and enjoyed time with close friends.  Also, their first daughter, Carrie, was born in Ansbach.  Following his military discharge, Chuck and Ruth made their home in Jefferson, where their second daughter, Kimberly, was born.

Chuck earned a Journeyman’s Card in tool and die making, and had a 23-year career with Rockwell International in Ashtabula.  He and Ruth started their own business in 1990.  CJ Tool and Machine operated successfully for 25 years as a joint venture.

Chuck and Ruth enjoyed touring the country in their motorhome; together they visited 46 of the 50 states.  Chuck was a master craftsman in woodworking.  He lovingly created many beautiful pieces for their home and every family member.  He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Jefferson. Chuck donated blood to the American Red Cross regularly between 1994 and 2014.

Charles is survived by his wife, Ruth, and his devoted family including his children Carrie (Mark) Lyerly and Kimberly (Alan) Travers, his grandchildren Juleah and Ryan Lyerly and Megan and Rachel Travers, and his sister, Frances Norris.

Charles is preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Carol Cass and Samuel Judson.  He was also preceded in death by Ruth’s parents, Robert J. Hall and Louise F. Hall, with whom he shared a very close relationship.

His family honored his wishes for a private burial and service with military honors, officiated by Pastor Christy Krnac, that took place on Friday, October 7, 2022, at Oakdale Union Cemetery in Jefferson, Ohio.  Memorial contributions can be made in his name to Hospice of the Western Reserve or St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Jefferson.
