Charles William Sowry

Charles “Bill” W. Sowry, age 87, of St. Rt. 193, Dorset, passed away Thursday, September 6, 2018 at the Ashtabula County Medical Center.  He was born on March 8, 1931 in Cherry Valley Twp., the son of Charles H. & Lucy (Russell) Sowry.

He has been a lifelong resident of Ashtabula County.  He was the owner/operator of Sowry Excavating.  He was a supervisor of transportation for Jefferson Area Local Schools for 20 years.  He and his wife Marianne were 4-H advisors for many years.  He enjoyed “clambakes” and spending time with his family and friends and playing cards during the holidays.

He is survived by his children, Marsha Hinkle of Jefferson, Mark (Sindy) Sowry of Lenox Twp., James Sowry of Dorset Twp., Brad Sowry of Willowick, Suzanne (Larry Matousek) Buell of Madison, Christine (James) Preston of Jefferson, David Sowry of Dorset Twp.; 15 grandchildren, Branden (Tami) Hinkle, Stacy (Matt) Alexander, Jennifer (Allan) Alvarado, Melissa & Heather Sowry, Thomas Sowry, Cara (Bill) Maylish, Cami Sowry, Loretta & Emily Buell, Alicia, Aleah & Aaron Preston, Cody & Courtney Sowry; 8 great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marianne Sowry; son, John Sowry; grandson, Garrick Sowry; son-in-law, Jack Hinkle.

A private family service will be held at Dorset Cemetery at a later date.  The Jefferson Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors and Crematory, 49 W.
