Bill Wright Obituary

Bill J. Wright, 95, passed away peacefully at home with his children and wife, Delores of 75 years, by his side.

Their love story started out as teenagers in the foothills of West Virginia.  After their marriage, they moved to Steubenville, OH, where Bill worked for Weirton Steel for 34 years while adding to their family and building their home with Delores always at his side.  He outsmarted “the system” by working hard and retiring young, spending most of his years in retirement.

His grandchildren say: He believed in God and the Bible.  His other love was his family and friends. He also dedicated his time to help build their new church. Grandpa had a fun adventurous side that we loved.  He taught us about riding hot wheels down the back hill, climbing the apple tree to get the best ones, about gardening and fixing things, and so much about life and how to live it.  He taught us how to cast a fishing line, hold a hammer, process a pig, work with wood and how to make the best apple butter around.  A man of many skills, he generously shared his knowledge to us. We loved absorbing his lessons and laughing when he got us with a trick. He had a mischievous grin that gave him away. We carry him with us forever in our hearts, our hands, and our crafts.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Frank and four sisters: Geraldine Tomey, Betty Garton, Ann Cardenuto, and Freda Kirkpatrick.

He is survived by his wife, Delores; his siblings, Eula (Gene) Marks and Eugene Wright; his children: Sandra (Dale) Whitney and John (Kim) Wright; his grandchildren: Brent (Jennifer) Whitney Jackie (Ben) Knapp, John Michael (Stephanie) Wright, Jessica Wright, Tyler (Sabrina) Wright; his five great-grandchildren and one on the way in January.

A celebration of life will be held at Bell Chapel Methodist Church on Saturday, November 4, 2023, at 11:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 1166 Lake Ave, Ashtabula, Ohio, 44004 or Bell Chapel Methodist Church, 3419 OH Route 213, Steubenville, Ohio, 43952.
