Berneta M. Smith, age 90, lifetime Jefferson area resident, died early Wednesday morning at the Jefferson Healthcare Center.
She was born October 12, 1930 in Lenox Twp., the daughter of the late Ray & Cora (Smith) Monroe. Berneta married Everett L. Smith on July 9, 1967 in Winchester, VA.
She was a member of the Lenox Christian Fellowship Church and a 75-year member of the Jefferson Grange. She and Everett were active with the Ashtabula Co. Wagon Train. Her enjoyments included crocheting and doing jigsaw puzzles. She made many Christmas gifts and donated them to the Franklin Graham Samaritan Box.
Survivors include two children, Larry L. (Rayann) Church of Jefferson & Kathryn L. (David) Root of Saranac Lake, NY; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and a brother, Raymond Monroe of Saybrook Twp. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Everett in 2013 and a sister, Zelpha Patterson.
Private services were held with burial in Lenox Center Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Jefferson Healthcare Center Activity Fund, 222 W. Beech St., Jefferson, OH 44047.
