Barbara M. Licate, age 85, E. 26th St., Ashtabula, died Monday morning, March 16, 2020.
She was born April 10, 1934 in Jefferson, the daughter of Howard & Dorothy (Chambers) Ames and resided in the Jefferson area most of her life. Barbara was married to Louis S. Licate on June 29, 1953 in Bel Air, MD.
She was employed by the Jefferson Area Local Schools as a cook for 17 years, retiring in 1997. She was an avid golfer and bowler and enjoyed ceramics and watching the Cleveland Browns, Indians & Cavs. Barbara dedicated 10 years of service to the Jefferson Athletic Boosters. In 1977 she received a Service Award from the Jefferson Area Little League, in 1980 she and her husband, Louis were selected as Jefferson Citizens of the Year.
In 2000 Barbara and Louis purchased the Jefferson Diner. After Lou’s passing in 2005, she maintained ownership until 2012. She was well known for her lemon and chocolate meringue pie’s.
She is survived by five children, Robert (Cindy) Licate of Ashtabula, Carole Ebersole of Jefferson, Gerald (Linda) Licate of Jefferson, Linda (Jeff) Paul of Rome & Gary (Anita) Licate of Jefferson; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and two sisters, Judy Talbott of Painesville & Patricia Burke of Zephyrhills, FL.
Her parents; husband, Lou; son-in-law, Joseph Ebersole & niece, Peggy Kobella all preceded her in death.
Private graveside services will be held at Oakdale Cemetery. No calling hours will be observed. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 1166 Lake Ave., Ashtabula, OH 44004 or the Jefferson Emergency Rescue District, P. O. Box 294, Jefferson, OH 44047.
